Cars, glorious cars… all of them electric ♩ ♫ ♩ ♩

What a great day, getting to talk to members of the public about one of my favourite subjects, electric cars!  It is always a treat to meet other EV drivers, as they are still a rare breed.  There was a real range of EVs, from the pure electrics (BEV) like the Leaf and Model S, the hybrids such as the Prius and petrol hybrid plug-in electric Outlander PHEV, and electric cars with battery-boosting petrol engines such as the Holden Volt.

Joe opened his house at Noosaville for Sustainable House Day.  He has a Tesla Model S, so decided to have an EV display alongside.  We brought along our Nissan Leaf, and put up a display on EVs as well.  There were seven Tesla Model S cars, a Prius, a Holden Volt, Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV, and a BMW i3.  One very special and rare electric car arrived in the afternoon – it deserves its own post, as does the house, a gorgeous architect-designed eco house on the river.  A total of 541 visitors signed the visitors’ book, and it was super busy until early afternoon.  OK, enough raving on, here are some pics.

I’m a teacher, former teacher-librarian, ex-volunteer breastfeeding counsellor and mother-of-three living on the Sunshine Coast. I’m concerned about climate change, and feel that the necessary changes to prevent the worst outcomes will rely on action from all sectors of our economy. I’ll be trying to share, promote and encourage that action by finding positive examples in our local community.
